Where do you keep your candles?

Filed under: Candles and Tarts, Sarah's Surprises — Sarah @ 1:07 pm

Where do you keep your candles?

Right now I’ve got a few everywhere - some are in the kitchen where I usually burn them, some that I burn are displayed on some shelves in the living room, and some that are just there to look pretty are on sconces on my purple wall.

I really don’t have much closet space in my house, and I need somewhere to keep the candles so they’re not all out in the open - or at least not on the kitchen counter.

One might be ok there, but three is probably overdoing it :-).

The Blue Gecko Candle Company Tart Review

Filed under: Candles and Tarts, Reviews — Sarah @ 7:00 am

I’m having so much fun burning The Blue Gecko Candle Company’s tarts - and not just because 2 of the tarts I’m burning are named after characters in Stepheneie Meyer’s Twilight series of books, which I’d just finished reading before I got the tarts.

These tarts are strongly scented, and they don’t need to be burned to be smelled.

Even as I sit here with them on my desk I can smell the tarts, and there have been a couple of slightly warmer days when I was sitting downstairs, and the tarts would perfume the air even though the electric tart burner wasn’t on.

It was kind of nice - I got a great scent without having to pay for the electricity the electric tart burner would have used.

When I did burn the tart I could smell it upstairs and downstairs, and the wax popped out of the tart burner easily after I left in the freezer for a while.

Bellissima Bella

If you’re a fan of the wonderful Twilight book series by Stephenie Meyer, this is what we think Bella must smell like to that handsome forbidden fiend of hers ;) Soft floral notes of lavender and freesia are dazzled with fresh cut Spruce, sprinkled with luscious sugar crystals and balanced out with just a hint of orange zest; ending with a sweet infusion of juicy summer berries, picked in the deep woods of Forks, Washington. Be warned, may attract Vampires.

Mmm. I was a little worried about the spruce in this one, but it didn’t bother me at all, of course neither did the vampires :-) which is probably a good thing.

Forever Alice

Inspired by the hit novel, “Twilight”, Forever Alice is named for the premonition having best friend of Bella. Alice is a teenage girl, bubbly sweet, but she also happens to be a vampire, immortally cold..she’s forever Alice. Our interpretation of Alice is filled with sweet, sugary cotton candy, innocent creamy vanilla and swirls of gooey caramel; ending with an icy tribute to her cold immortal destiny; minty fresh, frosty cold peppermint. May induce possible visions of the future, visions may or may not be reliable.

I was really excited about the Forever Alice fragrance because I love cotton candy! This is definitely a sweet fragrance, but it isn’t overwhelming.

My MIL thought that this would probably be too sweet for her from the description, but when she came over while I was burning it she liked it.

Summer Lovin’

All right GREASE fans, go ahead and sing it ;)! A delightfully romantic blend of delicate apple blossoms, star jasmine and juicy pomegranate, married with a shy hint of sweet and sassy citrus.

What can I say - it’s Grease!

I really enjoyed The Blue Gecko Candle Company’s Tarts, and I’m impressed with their scent throw, and how easy it is to take the used tart out when I want to switch scents.

I also love the book and movie related scents - it’s fun!

If you’ve tried The Blue Gecko Candle Company’s tarts leave me a comment and let me know what you think - or let me know which book character should have their own tart.

Top 10 Halloween Etailer Goodies - 2008

Filed under: Bath and Body, Candles and Tarts, Jewelry, Makeup, Sarah's Surprises — Sarah @ 4:32 pm

It’s almost Halloween!

Are you ready?

Ok, I know it’s a little early, but with so many etailers around who make items to order I decided to go ahead and put the list up now to ensure that you get your orders before Halloween.

And here they are in no particular order.

Enjoy!

  • 10. There’s nothing like the perfect scent to get you in the mood for a spooky evening. Crater Lake Company’s Bath Cloud in Gal Friday the 13th, $7.95 for 5 oz is the perfect scent to add a little fear to your life. Just imagine relaxing in a nice warm bath or shower, thinking about Gal Friday the 13. Is she the one responsible for your copier troubles? And why do you think the scent of apricot jam puffs is so prevalant in the office - but only on Fridays?

Gal Friday the 13 scent description:

“(Another CLC Creation) Scary Movies Collection: Scent-nopsis - Workers had a way of disappearing at the law offices of Death, Torment & Despair. Good thing the new gal didn’t know about the 12 who preceeded her. Gal #13 met her untimely death when she tried to clear a paper jam in the copy machine. Now legend has it that on certain Fridays she haunts the hallways of the office and all copy equipment go berserk. Why do they think it’s her? Because she was known for treating her co-workers to her homemade apricot jam puffs and on those haunting Fridays, the aroma of this delicious, warm treat would waft down the hallways. The Cast: warm apricot jam, sugar syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar all entombed in a heart-attack inducing buttery phyllo wrap. “

  • 9. Evening Eclipses Hallow’s Eve Collection will get your house smelling spooky.

The collection includes 4 tealights ($8.99) or 4 votives ($9.99) and a holder in 4 different scents, inluding Carved Pumpkin, Dark Treats™, Harvest Moon, Nightmare™.

I think I’d try Dark Treats first:

“This delectable scent is filled with all the goodies you loved as a child — chocolate bars, candy corn, and caramel apples are greedily stuffed into every candle. “

    Which would you try?

  • 8. What’s Halloween without guests? Show your guests that you pay attention to the tiniest details by placing Dark Desert Scents Coffin Soap Bars,$1.75 per bar, in the sink. With so many scents to choose from, you can’t go wrong.
  • 7. If Halloween is getting to be a little too scary for you lighten up a little with Isle of Eden’s Cotton Candy Zombie Sugar Scrub, $26 for 1 lb 4 oz.

Enough sugar to wake the dead! Layers of: Chokecherry Cotton Candy, Blood Orange Cotton Candy, Watermelon Cotton Candy, Lime Cotton Candy, and Blue Raspberry Cotton Candy

  • 6. What’s Halloween without bobbing for apples?

The Dark Temptaions Dooking 2008 Halloween Perfume blend, $14 for 5 ml, will remind you of those school sponsored Halloween games.

“Happy Halloween! Let’s play a game; are you ready to test you skills? It’s quite simple really. First, we’ll just tie your hands behind your back to keep them out of the way, no need to be nervous… it’s all in jest. Now you just need to use your teeth to remove one of those shiny red apples from this basin of murky water. Uh, Uh, careful now, you don’t want to fall in… and lose. Now who wants to go first?

Red and green apples, drizzled in caramel and brown sugar; crisp, sweet and sticky, how can you resist sinking your teeth in?”

    Doesn’t that make you hungry?

  • 5. If spooky isn’t your style, and Halloween costumes aren’t for you then Dismissie Mixed Bag’s Halloween Past Bracelet, $13, might help get you in the holiday mood.
  • 4. Show everyone everyone how much you love Halloween with this adorable Trick or Treat candle, $7.99 from Sweet Innoscents-Homemade “dessert” Candles.

2-wick Mini-Loaf Candle with the sweetest scent of Buttercream & Candy Corn, together in one candle. This candle has been topped off with Buttercream Icing and the cutest lil’ Pumpkin, Candy Corn and a Ghost(all wax, of course!) ALL candles will come to you individually wrapped in a clear package with a matching ribbon/bow, along with a blank gift tag, perfect for gift giving!

  • 3. Ghosts are always on the must invite list for Halloween.

These adorable ghost tarts, $4.95, will be there when you need them - and then they’ll slowly melt away. They’re scented in All Hallows Eve:

A spicy mulled grapefruit type with a fruity citrus orange-grapefruit top-note, a cinnamon leaf, spicy middle-note and a soft musky, sweet vanilla base-note.

  • 2. What’s Halloween without makeup? If you’re going for a clown look Pink Quartz Minerals Halloween Makeup White Base, $7, should be on your list.

  • 1. If Halloween is a time to give gifts then check out the Pumpkin Themed Gift Set, $15.99.

The gift set is a collaboration between Doctor Sweet Tooth and Nini’s Handmade,. Isn’t it adorable?

  • Which of these etailer goodies would you like to try most?

Mine’s a toss up between Isle of Eden’s Zombie scrub - I love cotton candy scents, and the Halloween Past bracelet.

It’s so adorable, and I haven’t seen anything like that before today!

Leave a comment and let me know which goodies you’d like to try the most.

    Summer Lovin’ Tarts

Filed under: Candles and Tarts, Sarah's Surprises — Sarah @ 8:09 am

The Blue Gecko Candle Company’s Summer Lovin’ fragrance is

“A delightfully romantic blend of delicate apple blossoms, star jasmine and juicy pomegranate, married with a shy hint of sweet and sassy citrus.”

Why is the Summer Lovin’ tart making an appearance during back to school week? Because Summer Loving is a song in the movie Grease - and this morning I had Back To School Again from Grease 2 stuck in my head, so I thought the Summer Lovin’ tarts would be perfect for Back to School week.

See how my convoluted brain works?

If you aren’t allowed to have tarts at school, the Summer Lovin’ fragrance is also available in soap, scented sachets, and a variety of other products from The Blue Gecko Candle Company.

    Nature Meets Ocean Charm Candles

Filed under: Candles and Tarts, Sarah's Surprises — Sarah @ 9:37 am

Have you ever had a charm candle or a wish candle - where you burn the candle and find a surprise in the middle of it?

I always thought that they were so cool!

These Nature Meets Ocean Charm Candles, $18, from Slarf and Kel’s kitchen each contain at least 4 charms (the ethereal forest and sea charm candle has 6), and are made with real beach sand.

    Doesn’t that sound like fun?
